Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to join our team as Assistant Management Accountant. We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated individual to join the Financial Management team, working with the Medicine, Community and Therapies Financial Management Team, providing a comprehensive financial management and advice service.
The role is part of the Financial Management team, based at Airedale General Hospital. You will work as part of a close-knit finance and information team which provides support to empower Board and Trust leaders to make informed decisions on the future of the Trust.
The post holder will plan their own workload to ensure that monthly and annual deadlines are met to achieve the above working within the policies and procedures set within the department. The role includes a significant amount of non-routine tasks, and often tight and conflicting deadlines, so the post holder will need to be able to adapt to these work situations.
The role will require knowledge of accounting principles, good IT skills as keyboard use is a significant part of the role, an understanding of the internal management arrangements and strong communication skills.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the Assistant Management Accountant include, but are not limited to:
* Assist the Finance Business Partner with the production of the monthly financial management information for the Medicine, Community and Therapies Division
* Assist in the production and investigation of monthly variance analysis
* Assist in the production of budgets / forecasts for specific areas of reporting
* Assist with the maintenance, input, updating and reconciliation of computerised budgetary control systems
* Provide financial training, advice, and support to ward / department managers in understanding and interpreting financial information
* Carry out complex calculations including those relating to maternity and sick leave
* Assist the Finance Business Partner with the production of ad-hoc financial reports for internal management decision making and external reporting
* Plan and organise processes and procedures to meet current and future needs
* To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role, including working with PLICS, Model Hospital, efficiency plans, Community Staff Data Sets

Skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills
* Methodical approach with an attention to detail and good levels of accuracy
* Ability to work to strict deadlines

* Ability to work using own initiative within defined parameters, and prioritise own work
* Ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences, including delivering training to non-finance colleagues
* Able to provide and receive complex or contentious information which may need to be handled sensitively
* Flexible approach to fulfil duties in an environment with ever changing priorities
Qualifications
* Association of Accounting Technicians – Intermediate level, or equivalent experience
* Currently studying or willing to study towards a professional finance qualification
* Good general education to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths and English
* Association of Accounting Technicians – Technician level, NVQ4 or equivalent experience with a detailed understanding of accounting procedures
Experience
* Previous experience of working in a busy finance office with an understanding of financial processes, basic accounting principles, and working within organisational policies
* Experience of collating information from a number of sources to contribute to reports
* Experience of working with computerised ledgers & other Financial systems
* Previous experience of working within NHS organisation and knowledge of NHS finance
* Experience of working with Oracle
* Experience of working within a management accounts role
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & ‘Understanding the New NHS’
* Demonstrable Excel skills at an advanced level, and experience of applying these in a work environment
* Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and ability to use these in a management accounts role
