Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Success Tutor role at UK Management College is to offer bespoke academic assistance to students, enhancing their learning experience and supporting their academic journey. The Success Tutor acts as a vital link between students and the college's faculty and administrative staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and personalised support. Through fostering a nurturing and proactive environment, the Success Tutor contributes to the college's mission of promoting quality, Diversity, and Inclusion throughout our programs.
Main activities and responsibilities
Student Learning Experience:
* Offering additional academic support to students as and when required.
* Assisting students in understanding and managing assignment extension processes and requirements.
* Providing clear and detailed guidelines to help students comprehend and fulfil their assignments.
* Guiding students on the effective use of the library and its resources for research and study purposes.
* Instructing students on how to use and cite references appropriately in their academic work.
* Providing constructive feedback on assignments to help students improve their academic performance.
* Assisting students in navigating and using the college's digital learning platforms and resources.
* Acting as a bridge between students and faculty or administration, ensuring students' concerns and queries are effectively addressed.
* Offering mentorship and guidance to help students make the most of their academic journey.
* Encouraging students to utilise the various resources and support services available at the college.
Managing People and Resources:
* Manage projects relating to own area of work and the organisation of external activities such as placements and field trips.
* Mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development.
* Coordinate the work of others to ensure modules are delivered to the standards required.
Pastoral Care:
* Be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area.
* Act as a personal tutor, providing first-line support and mentoring to students.
* Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances.
* Use listening, interpersonal, and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support.
* Refer students as appropriate to services providing further support.
Liaison and Networking:
* Participate in and develop external networks, contributing to student recruitment, securing student placements, facilitating outreach work, generating income, obtaining consultancy projects, or building relationships for future activities.
* Undertake international visits to establish partnerships, teach at partner institutions, or act as Success-Tutor.
Academic Administration:
* Be responsible for administrative duties such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, and assessment of progress and student attendance.

* Communication : The candidate should routinely communicate intricate and abstract concepts effectively to individuals with varying levels of understanding, as well as to peers, utilising a variety of media. They must also be adept in preparing proposals and applications for external entities such as funding and accreditation bodies.
* Teamwork : The applicant should demonstrate responsibility and leadership within team settings. They must be able to foster productive professional relationships with colleagues and coordinate efforts to identify and meet student needs.
* Initiative, Problem Solving and Decision Making : The applicant should have the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and development within the content or structure of academic modules. They should be proactive in generating ideas for income creation, subject promotion, and the application and dissemination of scholarly results. The candidate should also be capable of designing and delivering their own modules and assessment methods, considering university-established practices where necessary.
* Work Environment : The applicant must demonstrate an understanding of potential workplace risks and their potential impacts. They should also be competent in conducting risk assessments and implementing measures to minimise hazards, taking responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others.
Person Specification :
* The applicant should hold a First degree and higher degree in a relevant subject.
* Must hold a teaching qualification or show readiness to work towards it.
* A Master or willingness to study for a master’s degree is preferred. Alternatively, we will accept equivalence based on in-depth understanding in a related area.
* They must demonstrate specialist knowledge in the discipline and be capable of developing teaching programmes and providing learning support.
* They should have an understanding of higher education and the ability to use a range of delivery techniques to motivate and engage students.
* Evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review.
* Evidence of a positive impact at the programme level beyond own teaching.
* Experience in teaching, curriculum development and quality management in a higher education environment.
* Experience in research and enterprise activity.
* Evidence of high-quality publications or other research outputs.
* Demonstrable ability to lead research projects and win funding bids.
* Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and student needs.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Able to identify potential sources of funding.
* Able to participate in and develop external networks.
* Independent and self-managing working styles.

Professional Status:
The success tutors should be willing to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) and work towards achieving Fellow status under the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Standards Framework, if they do not already hold these qualifications.
