CEO & Founder | Senior Finance Executive Search & Selection
Sowena Group has been exclusively retained by a dynamic and growing healthcare SME based near Rochdale. With a strong commitment to delivering excellent healthcare services, the business is on an exciting growth trajectory. The company is looking for a proactive and hands-on Financial Controller to support its strategic growth by developing and enhancing the finance function across both commercial and operational aspects.
As the Financial Controller (No1 role in finance), you will play a critical role in the day-to-day management of the small finance function, working closely with the Managing Director (MD) to enhance the operational and commercial performance of the business. You will take ownership of all financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities. The role is highly hands-on and requires a commercial mindset to help the business make informed financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the preparation of accurate monthly and annual financial reports, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
* Provide insightful analysis on financial performance, highlighting key trends, variances, and business opportunities.
* Ensure the financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with relevant accounting standards.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
* Develop and manage the annual budget and periodic forecasts in collaboration with senior leadership.
* Provide financial modelling and analysis to support decision-making on strategic initiatives and investments.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management:
* Oversee cash flow management and working capital to ensure the business has adequate liquidity.
* Work closely with the MD to identify and manage cash flow risks and opportunities.
Commercial Finance:
* Collaborate with the MD and operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, process efficiencies, and profitability improvements.
* Provide commercial analysis for key business decisions, including pricing strategies, contracts, and new projects.
* Support the MD in financial decision-making by providing regular financial insights and reporting on key business drivers.
* Manage a small finance team, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and aligned with the business’s financial goals.
* Support the MD in developing the finance team to meet the needs of a growing business.
Systems & Processes Improvement:
* Review and enhance financial systems, controls, and processes to support the growing scale of the business.
* Ensure that financial reporting is timely, accurate, and complies with all statutory requirements.
Ad-Hoc Financial Analysis & Projects:
* Assist with the preparation and analysis of business cases for new projects and investments.
* Provide financial input into strategic initiatives and corporate planning.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
* ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
* Proven experience in a financial controller or senior finance role, ideally in an SME or growing business environment.
* Healthcare/services sector experience is advantageous but not essential.
* Strong technical accounting skills and an in-depth understanding of financial reporting and analysis.
* Commercially focused with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business.
* Strong systems skills, including experience with financial software and Excel.
* Ability to manage and lead a small team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Package: between £70,000 to £75,000 + bonus
This role would suit a fully qualified accountant who has had experience working within a SME ideally that has experience within services, healthcare or a contract led industry.
