Purpose of the Role To assist the management team in the running of Rail Grinding Machines, ensuring Rail Grinders work to their optimum performance, achieve a consistent high level of production. Role dictates that you would be an integral part of the operational crew and be responsible for covering last minute absence across both types of machines both in driving and operating. Assisting with continuous improvements operator training and assessments to maximise the team’s performance in achieving a consistently high-quality output. Carry out route learning / route refreshing when not carrying out shift cover. Key Responsibilities Direct and monitor all staff during the operation of the asset, ensuring maintenance and operations is carried out effectively, ensuring all reports are completed timeously and correctly. Evaluate processes and re-engineer to improve efficiencies Support the implementation of any innovation Ensure the safe working of the asset and all staff for during the grinding and maintenance operation Timesheet authorisation and justification for direct reports Provide assessments for ongoing development of direct reports Carry out Safety Tours and inspections Responsible for the training and assessment of direct line reporting staff. Produce training improvement plans and processes for implementation within Colas competency systems. Compile improvements to the Rail Grinding training documents Oversee the machine maintenance outages, ensuring that all defects and repairs have been captured and included in the plan. Liaise with the Fleet Manager, Maintenance Manager, Reliability Engineer and Technical Support Engineers. Implementation of any improvements identified Assist in maintaining quality systems, machine safety packs and stabling database by continually monitoring, reviewing and making recommendations for updating as necessary Person Specifications The job holder will have a proven track record in both operational and maintenance of On Track Machines, knowledge of Railgrinder would be desirable. The role requires the holder to have served a recognised apprenticeship and hold transferrable qualifications. It is also a requirement to hold an unrestricted Sentinel PTS and have a full medical. The ideal person will have – Experience of working with mainline grinders Proven track record in improving effectiveness in operations and maintenance activities Innovator who can take ideas from conception to implementation A broad Knowledge of Railway geography and operating practices Knowledge of Railhead profile management issues and Rail Grinding Techniques Experience of Grinding operations Recognised Assessor qualification or working to towards qualification Recognised Trainer qualification or working towards qualification Full driving license PTS Fire qualification Emergency First Aid Designated Person (DP) Assessed as competent to maintain and operate Rail Grinding Machines Investigation and analysis skills for root cause analysis. To possess good IT, communication, motivational, problem solving and excellent decision-making skills.
