Safety Engineer
As part of our continued growth plans, we are looking to expand our permanent Safety Engineering Team (all grades and levels). We are a leading professional engineering service who achieve excellence for commercial and defence organisations by generating viable, proactive and value-added asset management solutions.
These candidates would be joining the team in providing support to the civil and MoD environment. The principal support activity would include the generation of Safety Case documentation.
This Safety role is offered to candidates with experience in the safety management and analysis of complex systems in the Aerospace and or the Defence industry. Other industries and engineering disciplines will also be considered and are invited where read across of skills can be demonstrated.
Key Responsibilities
Provision of Systems Safety & Environmental capability to the Aerospace and Defence industries. Working with our customers to determine the scope of work and skills required to deliver against customer schedules.
The following activities are an integral part of the role in delivering Product Safety / Functional Safety Engineering tasks:
* Safety Analysis such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) in accordance with safety processes and using guidance from Def Stan 00-056, Mil-Std-1629A, NUREG 0492 and IEC61508;
* Working collaboratively within multi-disciplined teams to generate high quality and well-reasoned outputs requires good interpersonal skills. Therefore, good communication at all levels - ability to present information and to respond to questions from customers, line reports, managers or directors of the business will be required or developed as part of these roles.
* Generation of safety requirements for the system to ensure that the customer’s safety targets and derived safety targets can be met by the system design;
* Presenting complex and reasoned safety arguments to internal and external stakeholders in order to influence their consideration of safety decisions;
* Previous experience of delivering technical work packages including the Supporting audits at internal and external design reviews and safety committee meetings;
* Undertake production of reports as requested by contract, customer, or project.
* The approval of (Product Safety aspects of) Technical Specifications, and System Design Descriptions.
* Working with customer engineers and Major Systems Suppliers to analyse hazards associated with the given domain and help to develop the necessary design solutions to mitigate them or confirm gap analysis and determine Residual Risk for Technical Authority review.
* Be skilled in the identification of hazards, production of hazard logs and safety cases in accordance with DEF STAN 00-056 to meet the regulatory requirements of DSA02.
* Be familiar with product and functional requirements & means of acceptance and how they influence the safety aspects of a given system.

Additional Requirements
* SC Clearance is essential, deployment to customer (and associated customer development) may be part of the role
* Participation in internal / external project meetings, as required.
* Internal and external liaison will be a significant element of this role, including across customer stakeholders to ensure a robust solution is provided.
* Flexibility in working hours as necessary, while adhering to strict regulatory guidance.
