Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurse/GPs and strictly in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. The post will also include some administrative duties.
Main duties of the job
Duties and responsibilities once training undertaken and appropriate competencies have been signed off:
1. Chronic disease monitoring
2. ECG recording
3. INR/Cholesterol point of care testing
4. Blood pressures
5. Simple wound care (as directed by practice nurse or GP)
6. Simple removal of sutures
7. Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
8. Urinalysis
9. Injections and vaccination under direction of PSD
10. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
11. Surgical equipment, consumables and vaccine ordering, re-stocking and stock rotation
12. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
13. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
14. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being
15. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
16. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
17. Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the practice
18. Weight monitoring
19. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Qualifications
* Good standard of general education
* GCSE Mathematics C or above
* GCSE English C or above
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and social care
* Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and social care
* Practical experience of working in General Practice
* Practical experience of computerised recording systems
