Dog and Pest Control Officer - The Role:
You will work within the Environmental Health Service dealing with a wide range of animal welfare requests and responding to a variety of requests for the treatment of common household pests.
You will also be involved in enforcement work and will be expected to be capable of issuing fixed penalty notices for dog fouling and littering. In addition you will be expected to collect stray dogs and handle dangerous dogs, with some of this work being conducted outside of normal working hours.
Dog and Pest Control Officer - Key Responsibilities:
- To enforce national legislation, Borough and Town/Parish Council Byelaws in respect of dogs, including the preparation and presentation of evidence in court cases
- To deal with all aspects of stray dogs, including their collection, transport, arrangements for temporary accommodation and, when necessary, their ultimate disposal
- Participate in a Borough wide educational and advice service to encourage responsible dog ownership
- Assist with the preparation for and implementation of any additional dog fouling legislation in respect of land owned by the Borough, Town and Parish Councils
- Treatment of rodent and insect pests, e.g. rats, mice, bedbugs, cockroaches, fleas, and wasps, in line with the Environmental Health Services written standards, policies, and procedures
Dog and Pest Control Officer - You:
- Experience of working in a customer focussed environment
- Administrative skills to record accurately work carried out
- Self motivated and able to work alone
- Excellent communication skills
- Valid full driving licence
- A BTEC Level 2 certificate for Animal Inspectors would be advantageous but is not essential
