Autism Together has been providing specialist support for people on the autism spectrum for over 50 years. Founded in Wirral in 1968 by a group of concerned parents, the organisation currently supports over 400 adults and many more families.
Based in Bromborough, the job involves working across our properties in Wirral and West Cheshire. This is a permanent, full-time position, with a salary of £23,704 per annum.
The job involves carrying out a variety of planned and reactive building maintenance tasks, including general building, joinery, tiling, painting, paving, and external works, as directed by our Estates & Facilities Supervisor.
Other responsibilities include carrying out planned preventative building maintenance, and undertaking general support tasks such as furniture building, furniture removals, plus grounds and site clearance.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. An out of hours ‘on call rota’ is worked between the team - there is an additional payment for this.

Job Description
Within the policy and aims of Autism Together, to undertake general internal/external repairs and maintenance tasks relating to all aspects of the building trade, including where appropriate joinery, hard landscaping, plastering, plumbing to buildings owned or leased by Autism Together.
MAIN TASKS:
* To carry out a variety of planned and reactive building maintenance tasks, including general building, hard/soft landscaping, joinery, tiling, painting, paving, external works, drainage, and plumbing, as directed by the Estates & Facilities Supervisor and Head of E&F.
* To carry out planned preventative building maintenance in line with set programmes.
* Undertake general facilities support tasks, including furniture building and furniture removals, grounds and site clearance, and keeping areas clean and tidy generally.
* Work individually or as part of a team to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
* Ensure a safe environment for staff, people we support, and visitors by carrying out regular checks and adhering to health and safety regulations.
* To comply with Health and Safety Guidelines and work instructions issued by Senior Management.
* Work with various different types of machinery and equipment.
* Report to the Director of Estates & Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor any other internal or external damage to the buildings, property, or site.
* To liaise with outside contractors or inspectors when requested.
* Maintain accurate records with regard to ongoing building or grounds maintenance works.
* To undertake basic mandatory training and development training where deemed appropriate.
* You will be required to participate in on-call duties on a weekly rota basis during weekday evenings and at weekends.
* In exceptional circumstances, the General Maintenance Operative may be called in during off-duty hours to help deal with an emergency.
Qualifications
* Relevant training / Any building/trade related qualification (Essential)
* Knowledge of Autism (Essential)
* Working knowledge of the application of Health & Safety legislation in regard to general maintenance areas and safe systems of work (Essential)
* Understanding of the importance of confidentiality (Essential)
* Experience and proven record of carrying out general maintenance tasks to the required standard (Essential)
* An understanding of and experience of the use of associated plant and machinery, including power tools (Essential)
* Experience of the use of all hand tools (Essential)
* Experience of working to deadlines and prioritising own workload (Essential)
* Liaising with internal and external contractors (Essential)
* Basic IT Skills (Essential)
* Good verbal and written communication skills (Essential)
