Job Summary
Management of the implementation of the design management system and its effectiveness in meeting business, statutory, legal, and contractual requirements.
Provides leadership to managers & professionals. Oversees all phases or stages of Design Management including interactions/ coordination with construction, commercial, programme, procurement, etc.
Be responsible for the definition and approval of consultant appointment across all disciplines.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Develops delegated elements of annual business plan outcomes to deadlines and budget.
2. Leads and manages design resource for project/s.
3. Manages daily operations for project/s design resource/managers.
4. Leads and presents management review data/key performance indicators (KPIs) to project and sub-function leadership.
5. Supports business development and work winning activities.
6. Leads the identification, development, and delivery of relevant training.
7. Ensure management system is followed and whole project roles and responsibilities are adhered to.
8. Acts as focal point for design related matters on project/s.
9. Recommends and initiates change to project delivery plans, develops new design management tools and operating processes.
10. Supports and influences procurement routes, contractual and legal aspects of project/s.
11. Contributes to the promotion of technical excellence, support dialogue/communication.
12. Collaborates with project management office (PMO) teams (as required) ensuring coordinated deliverables.
13. Actively seeks out knowledge and experience through Company reach back.
14. Actively seeks understanding and utilise the centre of excellence (CoE) knowledge base.
15. Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition, and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

Technical Competencies
Essential: Good knowledge & application of design management systems, design risk management and mitigation. Excellent knowledge of prefabrication/build strategies. Extensive multiple sector experience delivering different building types.
Desirable: Display good negotiation skills to support the client/customer focus. CPD record of continual learning/development. Demonstrable building safety competence for Higher Risk Buildings. Good knowledge of all design disciplines. Exposure to Risk and Opportunity through Design management processes. Developed understanding of Statutory and Mandatory requirements and timescales, including Higher Risk Buildings. Stays up to date with key industry/professional trends.
Industry Competencies
Essential: Good knowledge of the construction and consultancy industries. Building Safety legislation, Building Standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and Health & Safety legislation.
Desirable: Work with industry leadership, professional bodies and affiliations (CLC, CIBSE, RICS, RIBA, ASFP). Knowledge of Health and Safety Executive (HSE) rules and specific sector/market regulations.

Essential: Excellent communication, organizational, presentation and writing skills. Maintains impartiality & takes pragmatic approach evaluating evidence. Ability to take initiative and make appropriate decisions. Good BIM literacy, BIM management and BIM Deliverables. Good technical knowledge to challenge projects/design/proposals. Essential: Educated to degree level preferably in design relevant discipline (or equivalent). Membership professional body (RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT).
