The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous peoples in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as our Executive Director.
NFC is an inclusive organization, encouraging applications from qualified candidates, including persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities. Objectives:
To provide strategic leadership and direction to advance NFC’s vision, mission, and mandate.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the overall management and operations of NFC. Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, community members, and funding partners to implement NFC’s Strategic Action Plan. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed, holistic approach.
The Executive Director will:
1. Oversee all aspects of NFC’s operations, including program management, finance, human resources, and administration;
2. Ensure effective utilization of resources and compliance with relevant policies, procedures, NFC’s bylaws, and legislation;
3. Assist the board in defining the direction of NFC as it relates to the needs of the Indigenous community;
4. Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with NFC’s mission and vision;
5. Build and maintain strong relationships with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, organizations, and leaders;
6. Instill and support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within NFC;
7. Provide visionary leadership to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and community members;
8. Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in the community and develop innovative solutions to address them;
9. Advocate for the needs and interests of urban Indigenous Peoples within NFC’s catchment area and at regional levels;
10. Develop and implement strategies to secure funding from government grants, private donors, and other sources.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Indigenous studies, social work, or related field).
2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably working with and for Indigenous Peoples in a nonprofit or Indigenous organization (Other combinations of education and experience may be considered).
3. Strong knowledge of Indigenous issues, community development principles, and relevant legislation and policies.
4. Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural awareness, history, sensitivity, and understanding.
5. Inspiring leadership qualities to guide staff, community, and volunteers in a meaningful way.
6. Financial literacy, grant management expertise, and resource development.
7. Ability to manage teams, drive performance, and instill a positive work environment.
8. Strong strategic planning, organizational management, and problem-solving skills.
9. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
10. Proficiency in MS Office applications.
11. Indigenous ancestry a preference; (ref: Aboriginal Employment Preference Policy); and,
12. A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.
Salary:
75,000.00 - 92,000.00 (with a 3-month probation)

Health care spending account, 3 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.
Schedule:
8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed.
