This is an exciting and rewarding role that will involve clinical education and sharing learning across all the teams on the IPU. You will help support new starters by supporting them in their supernumerary programme so that they are fully prepared with the essential skills necessary to work on the ward. We are looking for someone who is experienced, works as a role model to others, approachable and enjoys teaching and supporting staff in their roles and development on all areas of IPU.
Main duties of the job
We are committed to providing new starters with a comprehensive induction. As a Clinical Educator, you will be instrumental in supporting staff through this period, and a direct link between education and clinical practice. You will also have a key role in supporting the Senior Clinical Educator and Unit Manager to share learning, teaching and develop improvement strategies on the Unit and across the wider inpatient areas.
We are also passionate about ongoing development of both individuals and the service, so the post holders will also support and develop new clinical training and competency packages around key clinical skills.
Job responsibilities
* Working with the Senior Clinical Educator, Ward Manager & Matron, the post holder will be closely involved clinically with the development of all grades of staff including pre and post registration students.
* Work with the Senior Clinical Educator, Ward Manager, Matron, and senior nursing team to identify strategies for practice development.
* Work with the Senior Clinical Educator, Ward Manager, Matron, and senior nurses to identify and implement structures to support best practice.
* Focus on staff support and health and wellbeing promotion.
* Promote and incorporate research/evidence-based practice within the clinical setting.
* Facilitate awareness of professional and educational development by acting as a resource person.
* Act as an effective role model.
* Develop competency-based practice, supported by other specialist roles and subject matter experts.
* Liaise with the school of Oncology and outside educational organizations to help support the learning and development strategy.
* Working with the Senior Clinical Educator, Matron and Senior Nurses to establish a system for the implementation of practice change/improvement following action planning in response to incidents.
* Support the staff in practice, facilitating reflective practice and providing day to day clinical support.

* Provide expert advice and training on appropriate aspects of oncology, surgical, and radiology procedures to others where appropriate and provide train the trainer sessions to a Clinical educator in inpatient areas.

* To manage time appropriately to achieve aims and objectives of the department, directorate, division, and Trust services plans, in conjunction with the Senior Clinical Educator & Matron.
* To manage the training compliance for the department staff working with the senior nursing team to keep the database updated.
* To feedback regularly and consistently to the Senior Clinical Educator, Ward Manager and Matron.

* Lead on the development and implementation of grade specific teaching programs. This will include teaching and delivering presentations.
* Offer support and guidance to staff in relation to individual continuing education/professional needs.
* Maintain up-to-date records of statutory training updates for all staff.
* Responsible for acquiring/ensuring access to resources to support learning.
* Maintain own up-to-date knowledge base.
* Develop a system of feeding back learning from study days in a structured manner.
* Be responsible for developing research-based practice and supporting staff to ensure that their practice is evidence based.
* In conjunction with the Matron, Senior Clinical Educator & Senior Nurses, undertake audit of education and clinical practice annually and as required following changes to practice development for projects.
* Ensure there is a robust system in place for sharing learning.

Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma in Nursing Studies
* Post Registration Certificate in Cancer or equivalent.
* Qualification in teaching & assessing or equivalent
