Supply desk is pleased to be working with a special needs school in the Hemel hempstead area that prides itself on providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with SEND allowing for them to succeed to the best of their ability no matter what challenges they may face. The pupils and students have complex, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and the school supports children from the ages of 2-19. The school has excellent facilities and access to a range of resources to provide a rich and stimulating environment for the children.

Applicants with previous experience as an SEND Teaching Assistant (main stream or special needs schools) or candidates with transferrable skills from another profession such as carers or psychology graduates are welcomed to apply. You will be responsible for working with children and supporting their complex needs as part of a team of TA’s alongside a teacher in a rich and stimulating environment in this SEN school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and disabilities (PMLD).
The role will require the following responsibilities;
Supporting students with complex needs including Autism and Asperger’s, down syndrome and cerebral palsy
Providing students with personal care assistance
Managing challenging behaviour
Collaborating with the teacher and assisting with creating and delivering activities
Recording students’ progress and feeding back to the teacher
Will work one to one with some students
The ideal candidate will have /be;
Previous experience with SEN or have related qualifications (childcare, SEN or psychology)
Good knowledge of SEND or a passion to support children with SEND
Able to manage challenging behaviour
Able to commit to working fixed days – full or part time and to commute to the Hemel Hempstead area
Has a clear and valid DBS on the update service or willing to obtain one
Able to assist pupils/ students with personal care
