Principal Surveyor Permanent Grade 5 - £41,511 - £49,764 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week Investment & Valuation, Place Prosperity & Sustainability Directorate As the largest Local Authority in the country with the biggest property portfolio, we utilise the Council's property and land assets to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, create employment, income and deliver capital receipts to support service delivery and provide frontline services to the citizens of Birmingham. The Investment & Valuation team provide an extensive range of professional services across a variety of surveying disciplines, and we currently have an opportunity for a Principal Surveyor to join our Investment Property Management team. The Role You will be responsible for undertaking a variety of professional work covering all aspects of commercial property management to support delivery of an effective estate management service across the Council's extensive commercial property portfolio. The successful candidate may also be required to undertake other activities such as commercial lettings, valuation and property disposals where resources need to be deployed around the team to meet demand. You will provide expert guidance to Elected Members, internal client Departments and other internal stakeholders, representing the Investment Property Management team at internal and external meetings. You will support the Head of Service and Team Leader in the management and supervision of staff and contribute to the preparation and implementation of work programmes. You will manage budgets within the team, deploying resources to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services in line with City Council policies. Your Skills The successful candidate will be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), with substantial experience of commercial property work, managing complex caseloads and work programmes, and will be competent in monitoring budgets and analysing portfolio performance. You will have a high level of communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to persuade, mediate and conciliate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and professionals. You will also have the ability to lead and motivate staff and be flexible and responsive to changing work patterns and conflicting priorities to support the delivery of the team's key priorities, savings and financial targets.
