One of our leading industry clients in the beverages sector is looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their Project Engineering team on a 6-month contract. This opportunity will involve close collaboration with the Site Engineering Maintenance team to ensure the safe isolation of plant systems, preparation and execution of isolation schedules, and compliance with global technical standards.
Purpose of the Role:
The Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with key safety and operational standards, including but not limited to:
* Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures
* Risk assessments and work instructions
* Process safety and isolation protocols
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide safe isolation solutions in compliance with relevant legislation, ensuring effective and safe LOTO procedures across the site.
* Collaborate with teams to verify P&IDs against physical routes, updating and red-lining when necessary. Liaise with CAD teams for updates.
* Ensure mechanical site P&IDs and related documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible.
* Develop isolation schedules and related documentation.
* Support LOTO installation during commissioning of I/O testing, working alongside electrical, mechanical, and C&I teams (some out-of-hours work may be required during commissioning in April/May 2024).
* Prepare weekly progress reports and provide updates to key stakeholders and project leads.
* Adhere to all health and safety, environmental, and food safety standards at all times.
* Maintain a safe and organized workplace by following Safety and 5S MMS practices.
* Actively support adherence to core processes, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Essential Experience:
* Time-served Mechanical Engineer (preferably with HNC qualification).
* IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH certification.
* Recent proven experience of at least 5 years as a maintenance engineer in a manufacturing environment.
* Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
* Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
* Ability to confirm the accuracy of P&IDs in the field.
Desirable Experience:
* Knowledge of mechanical legislation and standards.
* Experience with machinery and functional safety systems.
* Familiarity with mechanical engineering, packaging, lean methodologies, process control, and RCM.
* Understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems.
