Do you love animals? We do, and that’s why our aim is to promote animal welfare by assuring the quality, safety and effectiveness of veterinary medicines and, in doing so, we protect public health, animal health and the environment.
This exciting and interesting administrative job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s work in being the regulatory and policy lead for issues concerning the authorisation, use, and manufacture of veterinary medicines in the UK.
You will be part of a large operational delivery team that progresses applications received in respect of veterinary medicines and their associated life-cycle. You will work closely with administrative and scientific colleagues as well as external stakeholders, including the pharmaceutical industry and regulators from other countries.
These are busy, complex roles operating in an ever-changing policy environment. You will mostly work within clearly defined rules, regulations and policies, and the output will be guided by practice and precedent. However, due to legislative review, policies continue to evolve, and new precedents emerge, so you must be adaptable to change.
* Receiving applications and carrying out all associated activities to start the application assessment process.
* Monitoring the progression of applications that require scientific input, whilst leading on the assessment of simpler applications that don’t.
* Preparing official authorisation documentation following completion of an application procedure, some of which will be published on the VMD Internet site.
* Dealing with a large volume of queries from applicants, ensuring customer service standards are met.
* Contributing to the maintenance of the quality management system within the team, i.e. reviewing and drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal checklists.
* Once established in your role, you will help develop and train others in the team. There may also be the possibility of undertaking line management duties in the future.
* Ad-hoc tasks specific to the role undertaken, which may include compiling figures for management from IT system searches, attending meetings to take notes, preparing reports / guidance for publication online and assisting with project work.
* Acting corporately – meeting the corporate objectives set by the VMD.
* Whilst carrying out your duties, you will need to analyse and interpret lots of information and data and make judgements on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with procedures and timescales. You will apply established principles, methods and precedents to ensure consistency and accuracy in the progression of work.
* These roles are challenging due to the volume and complexity of the work involved; you will need to think about what you are doing and understand the context within which you are working.
