The role We have an exciting opportunity for a Opto-Mechanical Product Design Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This role will provide technical design expertise for opto-electronic product development, as well as supporting manufacture, new product introduction, and process optimisation. Main responsibilities Define, design and develop opto-electronic products and solutions for harsh environment applications, including high temperature Mechanical model design (2D, 3D) and simulation including stress and thermal analysis Mechanical design to define and develop optical fibre interconnect and coupling solutions; design and integration of custom product enclosures to achieve robust and hermetic packaging solutions Mechanical design of various tools and jigging to support manufacture processes Input to define product specifications, engineering packages and to assist in generating manufacture documentation and configuration Assist in set up of prototype manufacture equipment and processes, including carrying out and overseeing first off trials and assembly Education/qualifications Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline Experience Strong opto-mechanical background and manufacture experience Highly experienced user of 2D & 3D mechanical CAD and simulation for complex design and analysis Product design and optimisation for volume manufacture Good awareness of manufacture processes and equipment related to fibre products manufacture Working knowledge of materials and technologies related to ceramic and thick film, MCM and PCB based solutions Expert user in SolidWorks CAD or equivalent High reliability microelectronics product design (preferably AS9100, MIL-PRF-38534) Competencies Microsoft Office tools Possess a high degree of self-motivation Successful history of building collaborative working relationships Excellent project management abilities Strong problem-solving skills Creative approach for generating new ideas Other requirements Some travel may be required SC clearance or ability to obtain What we can offer you Flexible working practices – we work a 9-day fortnight, offer flexitime, and work a half day Friday 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) with the option to buy up to 5 additional days Health cash plan – cash back for everyday health expenses Pension scheme with 6% employer contributions Life assurance – 4 x annual salary Reward and recognition platform Discount platform – retail, leisure, gym discounts and more Employee assistance programme with access to confidential counselling services Support for further training and education Relocation assistance up to £8,000 if you relocate to take up a position with us About us Spectrum Control is a global leader in managing and controlling the electromagnetic spectrum.
