About the Role:
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a respected building services contractor for an experienced Reactive Service Maintenance Manager to oversee the delivery of mechanical maintenance services on a key council contract.
This is a pivotal role in the business, responsible for managing day-to-day operations and ensuring reactive maintenance jobs are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard. You will act as the central point of contact for the council, contractors, and internal teams—managing the process from initial job receipt through to resolution and close-out.
The role is based in Leicester, with hybrid working available following the completion of a successful probation period.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage and coordinate reactive mechanical maintenance works on council-owned buildings and facilities.
2. Act as the primary liaison between the client (local authority), internal teams, and external contractors.
3. Oversee the full lifecycle of maintenance jobs - from job logging, resource allocation, site access coordination, through to completion and reporting.
4. Ensure all work complies with current regulations, health & safety standards, and contractual obligations.
5. Manage the allocation of engineers and subcontractors to ensure responsive and timely service delivery.
6. Assist with monitoring KPIs and service level agreements (SLAs), and take appropriate action to address performance issues.
7. Support the preparation of reports, documentation, and client updates as required.
8. Identify recurring issues and propose improvements to reduce future reactive maintenance demand.
9. Contribute to team meetings, continuous improvement discussions, and assist with the planning of future service delivery.
Requirements:
Essential:
1. Proven experience in a reactive maintenance management role.
2. Strong mechanical services background - either via trade, engineering, or technical qualification.
3. Sound understanding of mechanical building services systems (e.g., heating, plumbing, ventilation, etc.).
4. Excellent communication and coordination skills - able to manage multiple jobs and stakeholders.
5. Strong organisational and time management abilities.
Desirable:
1. Experience working within a building services, M&E, or facilities maintenance contractor.
2. Knowledge of relevant compliance requirements for council/public sector buildings.
What's on Offer:
1. Competitive salary and benefits package (dependent on experience).
2. Opportunity to work with a well-established and growing contractor.
3. Hybrid working flexibility after probation period.
4. Collaborative team culture and support from experienced colleagues.
5. Clear visibility and impact on service delivery performance.
6. Career development opportunities in a stable and expanding business.
This role is ideal for a confident and hands-on Service/Maintenance Manager with strong mechanical knowledge, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong working relationships with both clients and engineers.
