Architectural Protagonist: Guiding Architects to Alternative Pathways
Change the Way Great Buildings Are Delivered
You’ve steered large‑scale residential or mixed‑use schemes in high-profile London locations, balanced stakeholder groups, and safeguarded design quality. Now you’re ready to step out of day‑to‑day production and lead the entire delivery strategy for projects that will reshape the capital’s skyline - and fast‑growing international work beyond.
Grõ Careers has been exclusively retained by a multi‑award‑winning, medium‑sized design studio to appoint their first Senior Project Manager (with a clear path to Project Director). This newly created role brings the autonomy, influence, and board‑level visibility that many senior/associate architects or project/design managers pursue but rarely secure, especially within traditional practice structures.
What You’ll Tackle First
* Central London Regeneration (200+ units, Stage 5) - take full ownership of this scheme currently on-site, dealing with a demanding high-profile client.
* Future Pipeline – several mixed-use projects (£70-£200+ million), boutique hospitality refurbishments, and mixed‑use towers overseas - all waiting for your organisational rigour.
Your Mandate
* Stakeholder Command - represent the studio at client meetings, navigate competing consultant agendas, and translate technical nuance into clear commercial advice.
* Own the Project, Brief & Scope – act as the lead on projects, agree appointments, define deliverables, and close scope gaps before they threaten programme or fees.
* Drive Design Quality - chair design‑team workshops, manage change control, and guard against value‑engineering drift.
* Programme & Risk - build realistic yet ambitious schedules, track critical paths, and lead proactive risk‑mitigation sessions.
* Commercial Insight - monitor fees, negotiate variations, and report succinctly to practice directors on cost, risk, and progress.
With an in‑house architecture and interiors department at your fingertips, you’ll act as conductor rather than hands-on production work - free to focus on strategy, relationships, and decisive problem‑solving.
The Profile We’re Looking For
* Demonstrable success leading residential &/or mixed‑use projects of 200‑500+ units in London - ideally across all RIBA stages but a minimum of RIBA Stages 4-6 - within an architect’s studio, developer/contractor, or specialist design‑management consultancy.
* Previous experience/background as an architect.
* Strong knowledge of UK contracts, building regulations, appointment documents, project management processes and change‑management protocols.
* Natural facilitator: you translate client ambition into actionable tasks, keep consultants accountable, and thrive on resolving the “grey areas” others avoid.
* Ambition to grow into a Project Director post: shaping practice‑wide delivery standards, and mentoring future PM’s and architectural staff.
Why Join This Practice?
* Seat at the Table - report directly to the Managing Partners; shape how the studio delivers every project moving forward.
* Variety Without Chaos - work on landmark London projects while expanding into select overseas markets, supported by a stable 45‑strong team.
* Clear Progression - a pathway from Senior PM to Project Director, tied to leadership not tenure - potential for an immediate Project Director title is available for the ideal candidate.
* People‑Centric Culture - hybrid working policy, competitive salary, design-led projects, and much more.
