Do you have problem solving skills and a flexible approach, with an ability to develop people and teams? Do you have experience working in a public-facing operational role?
About us
The National Science and Media Museum (NSMM) will be reopening in January 2025 as Bradford becomes UK City of Culture 2025. The museum temporarily closed in June 2023 to undergo a once-in-a-generation transformation with huge changes through a £6 million capital project called 'Sound and Vision', including two new permanent galleries, a new passenger lift and improvements to the main entrance, thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Operations team at NSMM is responsible for the safety, security and standard of welcome on a day-to-day basis. As Operations Manager, you will lead the front of house teams to welcome, engage, inform and inspire our audiences.
The Museum will have recently reopened after a transformational refurbishment project, timed to coincide with Bradford taking on the mantle of City of Culture 2024 - there couldn't be a more exciting time to join! You will support your diverse team to champion the museum's vision, support income generation through donations and consistently drive improvements, owning the complete visitor experience.
About the role
As Operations Manager, you will manage and develop the team to a high professional standard as the public's first point of contact. You'll ensure a high quality, customer-focused, safe and secure visitor operation is consistently delivered and will take responsibility for Health and Safety in public areas of the museum, ensuring Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Standard Operating Procedures are in place and up to date. You'll lead on the induction of the visitor facing teams across the museum and will collaborate with other departments and colleagues to create a seamless experience for visitors.
About you
You will bring experience of working in a public-facing sector: museum, theatre, cinema, retail, leisure, etc, and will have good communication skills and an understanding how to motivate and develop people and teams. You will be flexible and adaptable, able to problem-solve and be able to deal with difficult situations as they arise. You will work well within diverse teams and will be able to build effective working relationships. Experience working within or implementing Health and Safety policies will be useful.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
