The Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH) at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBW) is looking to drive an ambitious future vision of care across Bristol and Weston.
Applications are welcomed for a fixed-term full-time post of Vitreo-Retina (VR) Surgery Fellow (specialty doctor band). The successful candidate must be available to start early June 2025. This post provides advanced sub-specialty experience in posterior segment surgery with an emphasis on surgical skills development.
Main duties of the job
The BEH is a highly regarded regional centre for ophthalmology and sits within the Division of Surgery at UHBW (recently rated Outstanding by the CQC). The BEH provides a tertiary referral retina surgery service and is integrated with a medical retina service. VR surgery is carried out in two of the four ophthalmic theatres in BEH seven days per week. The posts will support the team of 5 vitreo-retinal surgery consultants. The successful candidate is expected to play an active role in the running of the VR firms, including the management of emergencies.
There is an on-call commitment associated with this post.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Good knowledge of general ophthalmology, with basic specialist training (SpR level) completed for Ophthalmology and Vitreo-Retina
* Ability to benefit from the training level offered by the fellowship programme. Capacity to contribute to the business and development of the department
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to work in a team
* Ability and willingness to participate in teaching and training of junior doctors, nurses, medical students, optometrists and other allied health professionals
Qualifications and Training
* Applicants should already have CCST (or equivalent) or be entering into their final year of Specialist training, Overseas applicants would normally be at the end of their local training scheme
* Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council
