The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join our GMP manufacturing team in Hull. Reporting to the Site Director, you will be responsible for leading, managing, and developing all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environmental activities on-site. You will ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP standards, and drive a positive safety culture throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Management & Leadership:
* Act as the site’s subject matter expert on all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSE) matters.
* Develop, implement, and maintain robust EHS policies, procedures, and management systems in compliance with UK legislation, MHRA, ISO standards, and GMP requirements.
* Provide strategic direction on EHS matters and contribute to the development of the site HSE strategy as a member of the management Team.
* Serve as the primary liaison for all external regulatory agencies, including the HSE, Environment Agency, MHRA, and insurers.
* Approve site SOPs related to HSE, ensuring alignment with legislation and best practices.
Risk Assessment & Incident Management:
* Lead and support detailed risk assessments (including COSHH) and drive initiatives to reduce workplace hazards.
* Through proactive management, prevent accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events as far as possible. Ensure root causes of any incidents are identified and effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Environmental & Sustainability Management:
* Oversee environmental compliance, including waste management, pollution prevention, sustainability projects, and ISO 14001 requirements.
* Monitor environmental impact strategies.
* Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Training, Auditing & Continuous Improvement:
* Provide and coordinate effective HSE training for employees, management, and contractors.
* Monitor, analyse, and report EHS performance metrics, recommending improvements and driving the site's continuous improvement agenda.
* Manage the site's Crisis Incident Management (CIM) process for HSE issues, including emergency planning and safety drills.
Collaboration & Communication:
* Work closely with cross-functional teams (Quality, Engineering, Production, Warehouse, HR) to integrate EHS into daily operations.
* Maintain close liaison with Occupational Health services to promote health and wellbeing across the site.
* Ensure contractor and vendor compliance with site EHS standards.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Skills:
* NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma Part 1 (or equivalent).
* Significant experience in a senior Health & Safety or EHS role within a manufacturing or regulated environment.
* Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, Environmental regulations, and GMP compliance.
* Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
* Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, audits, and regulatory liaison.
* Interpersonal skills that allow you to influence positive outcomes.
Desirable Skills:
* Environmental qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or IEMA Certificate/Diploma).
* Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
* Experience within pharmaceutical, medical devices, cosmetics, or food manufacturing sectors.
* Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
