A prominent UK housebuilder based in Banbury is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to join their procurement team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in procurement within the residential construction industry, offering hands-on experience in sourcing and purchasing materials for high-quality housing developments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the procurement of building materials, products, and services for residential construction projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
* Support the senior buyer in preparing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and maintaining accurate records of transactions.
* Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms and prices to achieve the best value for the company.
* Monitor inventory levels and liaise with site managers to ensure materials are available as needed for ongoing projects.
* Assist in the evaluation of supplier performance, ensuring compliance with quality standards and company requirements.
* Prepare reports and provide data analysis on procurement activities, helping to identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Collaborate with project managers, quantity surveyors, and other departments to support the smooth execution of projects.
* Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and new products to contribute to the continuous improvement of the procurement process.
Requirements:
* Awareness of Building Regulations, NHBC requirements and Health & Safety Legislation.
* IT literate – including Microsoft Office and web based applications.
* Experience in the procurement and purchase of materials, sub-contractor and plant (preferable, not essential)
* Some experience in design packages (preferable, not essential)
* Previous experience in a procurement or buying role, preferably within the construction or housing sector.
* Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a keen eye for detail.
* A proactive and eager-to-learn attitude, with a passion for developing a career in procurement.
* A relevant qualification in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field (essential).
