About you
You will have significant experience in managing teams in the waste industry, together with excellent communication skills that means you can communicate effectively across the whole service including our loaders, drivers and supervisors and above.
You will hold a Level 3 NVQ or higher in a relevant subject, WAMITAB Level 3 certificate or higher, or holding an HND level qualification or higher in a related discipline.
You will have sound knowledge of the waste industry, including vehicles and logistics etc.
About the team
You will have 2 direct reports, with up to 140 indirect employees. Working across 3 depots we deliver directly to our 83,000 households every week of the year, collect waste from a range of streams, including household waste and recycling, commercial waste, glass, garden waste and clinical collections.
About the role
You will be responsible for the organisation and management of the waste and recycling collection service, monitoring performance indicators and financial performance to ensure that our essential frontline collection services are functioning at the highest level.
You will provide guidance to their direct and indirect reports across the service and ensure that the Council’s excellent health and safety standards are maintained.
We are currently delivering major service change, rolling out weekly food waste and alternate weekly refuse and recycling collections for the first time. The waste and recycling operations manager will lead on the implementation of new service developments onto the frontline, and the ability to manage the service through change is key.
