It is an exciting time to join our Diabetes & Endocrinology team within the IMPF Division at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is looking to appoint a consultant physician to work with consultant colleagues and wider multi-disciplinary teams to provide a wide range of diabetes and endocrine services including inpatient diabetes across the Fylde Coast.
Main duties of the job
The clinical commitments of this post will include responsibility for inpatient diabetes & endocrinology care, outpatient clinics, acute medical take on call commitments. The post-holder will work with colleagues to manage a clinically effective and financially responsible service. The post-holder will take part in clinical audit, service evaluation and clinical governance.
The post-holder will work with service colleagues to evaluate the patient outcomes and respond to the findings with appropriate service changes. It is anticipated that there will be significant evolution of the service, particularly in the early years. All members of the team will be expected to have a flexible approach to the necessary service changes.
The post-holder will support medical trainees and other members of the service with their continuing educational needs and personal development.
There is an active Clinical Audit programme in the Medical Directorate under the supervision of the Head of Department. All consultants are expected to participate in the design of audit within their specialty and to attend all audit presentations of the directorate.
There is a requirement to participate in annual appraisal in line with GMC regulations.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in research on clinical and/or service issues relating to Diabetes and Endocrinology. The Trust is supported by an active Research and Development department.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will have an opportunity to develop diabetes renal service, multidisciplinary adrenal, and pituitary service with a liaison with Manchester and Preston. The department will support the post holder to gain experience in the sub-specialty of their interest.
This new position has been created to play a major role in the delivery of diabetes with focus on expansion of inpatient diabetes and diabetes technology, and endocrine services.
Person Specification
* Full registration with the General Medical Council.
* Primary Medical qualification. MRCP, or equivalent.
* MD, PhD or other relevant qualifications Entry on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of certificate of completion of training (CCT) in general (internal) medicine by the date of the interview.
Experience
* Any specialist interest.
Research/audit/ publications.
* Ability to supervise audit projects.
* Understanding of principles of research and audit. Regular attendance at audit meetings.
* Evidence of recent research activity and publications. Recent personal involvement in audit.
Professionalism
* Enthusiasm and commitment to the specialty.
