Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine
NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Doctor
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of #TeamEDs Specialty Doctor - ST4+ level in Emergency Medicine. Once in post, the opportunity would be available to develop into a CESR post.
The post will comprise mostly clinical duties; however, an integral part of the post will be the supervision and teaching of training grade doctors on the shop floor.
The successful applicant will work across both hospital sites, gaining experience in a Major Trauma Centre and tertiary centre for many hospital specialties, and will be exposed to a variety of Emergency Medicine presentations.
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine (level 4 and above) in the UK, and will account for the majority of the appointee’s time.
In addition, the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and ongoing audit programmes within the directorate. Admin time will be allocated from the clinical component of the post.
Some other duties include:
1. Provision of primary medical care to patients suffering recent injuries and acute medical and surgical conditions of sudden onset, occurring in circumstances where it is not practical to seek the assistance of their General Practitioner.
2. Timely review of patient results and investigations when returned to the department.
3. Pre-hospital treatment of trauma victims and those suffering from acute illness.
4. Treatment of patients referred to the department by General Practitioners, usually excluding those referred directly to the medical, surgical, or other specialist departments.
5. To be aware of the contents of the Trust Major Incident Plan and be able to carry out the relevant roles as determined by the Plan.
6. Provision of advice to members of the general public who contact the department by telephone or in person.
