ABOUT THE ROLE Newcastle Business School is keen to appoint a candidate to the role of Assistant Professor (Practice) across the following core subject area: Digital supply chain management: with subject expertise in areas such as digital supply chain management and operations excellence and with experience and skills in programming languages, data analytics, database management, web development, machine learning/AI, system integration and cloud computing Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will be responsible for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, experiential learning, practice, knowledge exchange, scholarship and business and enterprise engagement activity. The role will also work working closely with the Director of the "Centre for Digital Supply Chain Excellence" and the academic team attached to the Centre to fulfil industry projects, research, knowledge exchange, business, enterprise engagement activity, relevant research admin and leadership tasks. For further detail please see the job description ABOUT THE TEAM The "Centre for Digital Supply Chain Excellence" is the physical platform for co-creating knowledge with impactful projects benefiting the stakeholders that may include immediate clients, academics and students. You will meet the team of academics attached to the Centre working with you in number of different projects. You will also directly work with the business development manager for industry-faced activities and tasks that include admin and research activities. The role will sit within the Department ofMarketing, Operations and Systems (MOS) which is home to around 60 academic staff that are housed across three interrelated subject groups: Analytics, Marketing and Supply Chain Operations. Each subject group is proud to own successful undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, with some of these also delivered at our satellite campuses, via Distance Learning or via our international partners. In the Marketing subject group, we have around 30 academics with extensive academic and practitioner experience. At postgraduate level we boast innovative programmes in both Marketing and Digital Marketing (the latter of which is also delivered internationally), and at undergraduate level we have two marketing programmes which have a track record of developing hugely successful graduates. In the Business Analytics subject group, we have around 20 academics with extensive academic and practitioner experience. Our MSc Business Analytics programme has witnessed significant growth and is now one of the biggest recruiters in the faculty. In addition, we have recently validated an innovative undergraduate programme in BSc Hons Business and Analytics which will commence in 2024. In the Supply Chain and Operations subject group, we have around 13 academics with extensive academic and practitioner experience. At postgraduate level we boast an innovative programme in Global Logistics, Operations and Supply Chain management and we have also recently launched a refreshed undergraduate offering in Business and Supply Chain Management. All courses are informed by both our engagement with professional practice and our research expertise. Our research community is strongly embedded in our research group "Decision-Making: Analytics, Operations and Marketing", with specific sub-themes aligned to each subject group. Our teams meet regularly, collaborate on a range of projects and use their networks to bring in high-profile academic speakers to further our knowledge base. As well providing support for engagement with academic conferences, the department also boasts research competitions which can assist with costs associated with data collection and analysis and promote working in multidisciplinary teams. This is a hugely exciting time to join our multidisciplinary team and collaborate not only in teaching, but also in both research and knowledge exchange activity. Our department wishes to expand its already impressive research profile and has an impressive arrange of external partners where our expertise is shared with the wider business world. Our three subject groups engage in collaborative research on subjects are far reaching as intellectual property, supply chain resilience, digital marketing and autonomous systems, and are investing in our own Centre for Digital Supply Chain Excellence' to facilitate such projects. ABOUT YOU Applicants should hold a degree qualification in the relevant area e.g. data science, computer science and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge and subject expertise in supply chain and operations management. Experience and skills in programming languages, data analytics, database management, web development, machine learning/AI, system integration and cloud computing is essential. You must also be able to demonstrate contemporary expert specialist knowledge and subject expertise within the relevant discipline/practice areas ensuring that the curriculum reflects the latest developments within practice. Experience of designing, delivering, assessing, and evaluating high quality teaching and learning practice as well as evidence of your contributions to the development of contemporary practice are essential.
