The Role
Are you passionate about bicycle mechanics and making a real difference? We’re looking for a Prison Industries Bike Repair Instructor to lead a dynamic workshop within a custodial setting, supervising and training prisoners in bicycle repair and maintenance. This role is a unique opportunity to pass on valuable skills, help individuals work towards recognised qualifications, and support rehabilitation through vocational training.
About the Role
As the Bike Repair Instructor, you’ll oversee a structured and productive workshop environment, managing up to 18 prisoners as they learn technical skills in bike repair. Your role will include:
* Teaching prisoners essential repair and maintenance techniques, guiding them towards City & Guilds qualifications.
* Supervising day-to-day operations, setting production targets, and ensuring contract delivery indicators (CDIs) are met.
* Encouraging positive work ethics, teamwork, and personal growth while promoting restorative practices.
* Ensuring adherence to security protocols, health & safety regulations, and tool control measures.
* Working closely with prison staff, maintaining accurate records, and supporting prisoners’ progression into employment.
This role is full time working 38.5 hours per week 8am – 5:30pm Monday – Thursday and 1:30-5:30 Friday.
We’re looking for:
* Strong experience in bicycle repair and maintenance (ideally in a supervisory or training role).
* A formal qualification in bicycle mechanics (desirable).
* A Level 3 Assessor Qualification or a willingness to work towards one.
* Excellent leadership skills to motivate and manage a team.
* An understanding of health & safety standards in a vocational setting.
* Awareness of security protocols within a custodial environment (preferred but not essential).
