Research Associate (Fixed Term): The Department of Plant Sciences seeks a post-doctoral Research Associate to contribute to developing disease-resistant crops. Collaborating with the Patron Lab, the Morris Lab (John Innes Centre), and the Denby Lab (University of York), the successful candidate will focus on engineering resistance to fungal pathogens in lettuce. This multidisciplinary project involves systems biology, modeling, and synthetic biology.
Designation: Research Associate
Research Area: Plant Molecular Biology
Location: Department of Plant Sciences
* PhD in plant molecular biology.
* Strong understanding of gene expression and regulatory networks.
* Proficiency in designing and constructing genetic constructs for plant engineering.
* Experience in plant transient expression assays or the production and analysis of transgenic or edited plants.
* Competence in quantitative data collection and statistical analysis.
Job Description: The candidate will:
* Characterize interactions between key regulators of pathogen responses.
* Develop and validate a dynamic network model of lettuce transcriptional responses to fungal pathogens.
* Design and construct synthetic genetic controllers and gene editing constructs.
* Test the effects of genetic modifications on gene expression and pathogen resistance.
* Contribute to a supportive research environment focused on personal development, research excellence, integrity, and respect.
