ITS Design Engineer Location: Chelmsford, CM1 1QH Full Time: Mon-Fri, 40 hours Job Description Ringway Jacobs is seeking a passionate and skilled Engineer to join our ITS team, delivering high-quality design services for the Essex Highways contract. As part of the ITS Design team, you will play a key role in the design and installation approval of innovative traffic control solutions, including pedestrian crossings, traffic signal junctions, CCTV systems, and electronic driver messaging signs. Additionally, you will conduct feasibility studies and review third-party ITS proposals, ensuring excellence across the County’s transport network. Key Responsibilities Design and deliver ITS designs and specification documents in order schemes can be tendered and constructed using our supply chain partners. Answer and discuss technical questions and proposals relating to ITS and Traffic Engineering. Engage with and resolve issues with clients, operations teams, colleagues, supply chain and external parties. Comply with and promote Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems. Assist in the management and monitoring of works programmes. Take responsibility for their own hours spent in the delivery of their projects and to assist the team leader in the implementation of strong budgetary control and financial management. About You Familiar with traffic signal control strategies including VA, UTC/SCOOT and MOVA. Skilled in writing controller configuration forms and ITS technical specifications. Ability to carry out ITS technical reviews of third party designs and proposals. Knowledge of, and experience in ITS standards and specifications. Knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including CDM Regulations. Full driving licence or intention and ability to obtain a licence within a year of joining the organisation. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). BEng or BSC Degree preferably in electrical or civil engineering discipline (2:2 or above) or suitable equivalent work experience.
