The School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh invites applications for the post of Electronics Technician within our existing technical team. The Opportunity: The School of Informatics Technical team support Teaching, Research, Computing and the School in general, with all aspects of technical support in both the electronics and mechanical fields. This post is primarily aimed at providing electronics and technical support for our teaching cohort, providing technical assistance, design and build support for student projects which use a multitude of electronic circuitry, robots and computer interface methods. Your skills and attributes for success: Experienced electronics technician with HNC/Degree/or proven experience. Skilled in circuit design, circuit construction, problem solving. Experience of interfacing electronics with computers and micro-controllers, SPI programming (I2C, MISO/MOSI, etc,) and higher level programming (C, Python, PERL, etc,). Have the manual dexterity to work at surface mount level to design/construct and repair boards. Desirables are: PCB design and router familiarity CAD (electronics); robot construction 3D printing experience Familiarity with multiple OS (Windows, Linux, Mac) and their uses in controlling and sending/storing data with custom peripherals Experience with programming of microcontrollers HS awareness relative to electronics construction and also general HS awareness within lab environments.
