Job Introduction
BBC Children in Need has an exciting opportunity for several Advisory Committee members to support our grant-making in Wales. BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s UK Charity, and exists to make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our focus is on finding and funding the inspiring ideas that change children’s lives.
The Advisory Committee advises the Trustees of BBC Children in Need on grant awards in Wales. They bring their knowledge, understanding, and experience to the process of awarding grants to support organisations in Wales that work with children and young people. The grants, in turn, support organisations to make real differences to the lives of the children and young people that they support. Committee members are highly valued, help to maintain the integrity of the Charity, and help to achieve a balanced portfolio of grants, based on our strategic priorities, policies, guidelines and criteria.
Role Responsibility
Each Advisory Committee member is part of a small team that brings their knowledge and understanding to enrich the decision-making process. We are keen to recruit new members with experience of:
1. Working with children and young people (especially early years children)
2. The voluntary sector
3. Equal opportunities
4. The rights of the child
5. Lived experience of some of the challenges we seek to address
We welcome applications from anyone regardless of their age, disability, ethnicity, heritage, sexuality, gender and socio-economic background. For these roles, we are particularly encouraging applications from ethnic minorities, disabled candidates, and those based in North or West Wales as these groups are underrepresented on the panel. We would also encourage applications from young adults or individuals who may have benefited in the past from the support of one of the projects we have funded.
Are you the right candidate?
We ask that Committee Members attend at least two Grant Allocation meetings and one of two Planning and Portfolio meetings each year. The total time commitment for this will be around 3 – 4 days. Grant Allocation meetings are digital meetings with Planning and Portfolio meetings face-to-face.
Appointments are of a voluntary nature. They are initially made for a three-year period with the possibility of being extended by another two years.
