Lancashire County Council manages over half a million tonnes of municipal waste each year. The council has a network of waste facilities which includes the direct operation of 15 household waste recycling centres and two waste transfer stations. Role Overview: We seek an enthusiastic individual to support HWRC Site Supervisors in all aspects of the HWRC service. Required Attributes: • Excellent communication skills and even temperament. • Experience in waste management is desirable but not essential. Responsibilities : • Report to an Assistant Operations Manager. • Engage directly with customers, including handling difficult situations. • Assist users with waste separation and encourage recycling. • Actively separate/retrieve recyclable waste and promote reuse. • Maintain site tidiness and compliance with quality, environmental, and health and safety standards. • Handle permits and process payments for inert waste. • Communicate effectively with the public and staff. • Ensure skips and containers are available and managed. • Manage collections directly from the site (e.g., fridges, bric-a-brac). Additional Requirements: • Work on Bank Holidays as standard or in rota. • Undertake basic competency qualifications. • Train and operate mobile or mechanical plant daily. • Work at other facilities within a reasonable distance as needed, with travel expenses covered if applicable.
