A look into the role
Henderson Group supply goods to over 450 stores across various brands such as SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVO in Northern Ireland.
We achieved Gold accreditation against the Investors in People standard framework in 2023 in recognition of people management excellence and our commitment to investment in people.
Our Health and Safety team provide a comprehensive, professional and customer focused advisory service on health, safety and wellbeing across the Group which employs over 5000 people. They ensure compliance with legislation and best practice across a wide range of working environments including warehousing, driving, public facing retail stores and offices.
In the role of Health & Safety Co-Ordinator, you will:
Audits / Inspections
* Assist the Health & Safety Advisor in conducting audits and inspections across the estate, collaborating with the supply chain to identify existing or potential hazards.
* Develop and implement corrective or preventative action plans based on audit findings.
* Monitor and review action plans resulting from internal audits/inspections and provide reports to the Health and Safety Manager.
Accidents / Incidents / Near Misses
* Log and investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses involving employees, suppliers, and customers using the health and safety database.
* Support root cause analysis and document corrective actions in a timely manner.
* Develop a new accident reporting system and departmental dashboards with suitable KPIs/trackers.
* Ensure all supporting evidence (CCTV, inspection records, witness statements) is obtained, recorded, and filed appropriately.
* Report RIDDOR accidents to the relevant authority as required.
* Liaise with the Claims Manager to prepare materials and evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
Wellbeing
* Collaborate with the Occupational Health Advisor to plan and schedule statutory health surveillance and legal requirements in line with best practices.
* Assist with substance misuse testing, data recording, and the production of statistical reports.
* Ensure timely referrals of employees who have accidents at work to the Occupational Health Advisor.
* Support and coordinate health promotion activities as part of the Group Well Aware initiative.
* Attend Well Aware health champion committee meetings to help shape the health promotion calendar.
Reporting
* Assist the Health & Safety Advisor in analyzing accident/incident statistics, types, and trends.
* Maintain statistical data required for reporting to local councils, safety committees, and management.
* Support the creation of reports for submission to department heads and health and safety committees.
General
* Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures.
* Assist in the development and implementation of projects aimed at achieving established health and safety goals for the group.
Skills for Success
Joining us as Health & Safety Co-Ordinator the minimum criteria you’ll need is:
* Demonstrable experience of working in a Health & Safety department or environment
* Up to date knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practise.
* Proficient in the use of MS Office packages.
* Full driving licence, access to own transport with a willingness and flexibility to travel to sites on a regular basis.

It is Desirable if you have:
* A degree qualification at 2:1 or above, in Environmental health or any health and safety related degree or equivalent.

This is a full-time position working 36.5 hours per week. Working hours will be 8:45am-4:45pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am-3:45pm Friday. Hybrid and flexible working arrangement available.
