Job Title: Care Assistant (Days) Location: Lawnfield House, 5 King Street, Newcastle, BT33 0HD Council: Council for Social Witness Hourly Rate: £11.63 per hour (no NVQ) £11.69 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care £11.73 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care Hours: 37 hours (3 x 12hr & 20mins) Responsible to: Home Manager Main function: To be responsible, through management and staff leadership, for promoting and ensuring the highest standards of care, in compliance with statutory requirements to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents with the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church In Ireland DUTIES CARE OF RESIDENTS Assist with the daily care of the residents, helping residents with all aspects of personal care where necessary, to ensure their needs are met, respecting their privacy and dignity. Encourage residents to be as active and as independent as possible. Accompany residents to hospital, clinic etc., or on short walks as directed. Ensure vigilance is exercised at all times in relation to the health, safety and well-being of residents. To administer residents medication after appropriate training. To complete appropriate written records as required. To promote and take part in social and recreational activities within the home, which are designed to enhance quality of life. REQUIREMENTS To ensure compliance with the Presbyterian Council for Social Witness policies and procedures. To attend mandatory training. To adhere to the Christian ethos of the home (e.g. in terms of language and conduct). ADDITIONAL DUTIES To undertake any other relevant duties, which may be required. Duties may include week-end working and being on call, on a rota basis, at night and at week-ends. Qualifications and Knowledge Essential ? Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people or those with learning and physical disabilities ? Awareness of Health and Safety practices within a working environment ? Willing to undertake relevant training eg induction training, or NVQ/QCF level 2 ? Proficiency in understanding, communicating and writing in English to level required by duties of the post Desirable ? NVQ/QCF Level 2 Award in Care ? A good understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults or older people ? Experience of working in a care setting ? Experience of working with those with disability 2. Relevant Experience Desirable ? Knowledge of the role of RQIA ? Experience of working with people with a learning disability or older people 3. Personal Attributes Essential ? Good interpersonal skills in relation to residents, family members, staff and external professional and other contacts ? Caring and committed in approach ? Good team worker ? Adaptable and flexible in approach 4. Physical Requirements Essential ?
