The English Department
The Faculty of English is a strong, supportive team of experienced teachers. Together, we aim to engage students with our highly-challenging English curriculum and empower them to become excellent communicators and confident, critical readers. We are a creative and reflective team who work collaboratively to ensure that resources and planning are designed to maximise progress.
At Key Stage 3, students study a variety of challenging texts and learn about the pertinent issues with language and representation in the world around them. At Key Stage 4, students extend this knowledge and apply their skills while studying the AQA GCSE English Language (8700) and GCSE English Literature (8702) specifications. At Key Stage 4, students study set Literature texts including Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Blood Brothers and Love and Relationships Poetry.
Outside of our classrooms, students' study of English is enriched with extra-curricular clubs, theatre trips, whole-school performances and reward trips organised by our Faculty.
Presently, the Faculty has seven teachers who teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, including the Faculty Lead and an Assistant Headteacher.
