It is an operational support and maintenance base, within Navy Command and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. HMNB Clydes primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Class submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description As the Faslane Site Operator you will have the opportunity to oversee the delivery of services in support of waterfront operations. You will ensure submarine & surface ship engineering and waterfront infrastructure/dockyard port outputs from HMNB Clyde meet the operational programmes and tasking of Navy Command and HM Government in a safe and secure manner. As an Authorised Person (DAP) for Health and Safety for the Faslane Authorised Site and as the Nuclear Permissioning Director for Vessel Support activities, you will authorise all activities conducted at the waterfront, supporting nuclear facilities and utilities at Faslane. You will manage a team of military and civilian personnel to ensure that all waterfront activity is within the approved scope of operations and is compliant with the Safety Management System and Nuclear Site Safety Justification. You will act as the senior nuclear plant experienced person, providing direction, mentoring and guidance to all those working nuclear facilities and utilities to site operations. You will act as the senior Trusted Advisor to the Site Authorisee for nuclear plant operations on the site, supporting Site Safety Justifaction and enacting Hold Points to work as required. You will act at the lead advisor for integration of all changes that affect nuclear waterfront operations. Person specification This is a great opportunity for an engineer and leader with experience of managing senior stakeholders in a nuclear operating environment. Demonstration of Professional Engineering Competence through the Engineering Council and an understanding of delivering or managing submarine operations on a nuclear site is essential. The applicant must be a single UK National, have a flexible work ethos and be prepared to travel. Applicants should thrive in challenging nuclear and operational environments, understand their role in the bigger picture and be able to prioritise work, at pace. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work across public and private sectors and a wide range of functions to oversee activity on the site and act as an Intelligent Customer for maintaining and sustaining waterfront capabilities, current and future. Overseeing the waterfront activity on the Faslane site is vital in ensuring the delivery of the Continuous At Sea Deterrent, through the maintenance of the UK submarine fleet and as the senior nuclear propulsion advisor to the Site Authorisee. Experience of working with the defence nuclear enterprise and/or nuclear industry projects is desirable.
