We have an exciting opportunity to join Transpennine Route Upgrade as Community Relations Manager!
Transpennine Route Upgrade
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a major multi-billion-pound electric railway programme in the North of England between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. It will transform journeys across the North, better connecting towns and cities through more frequent, faster, greener trains, running on a better, cleaner and more reliable railway.
TRU will bring passengers:
1. More trains to choose from and more seats
2. Faster journeys so you can travel to your favourite towns and cities more quickly.
3. More reliable journeys with trains that run on-time
4. Better stations
5. Greener travel, reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality
Stretching across the North of England, this key 70-mile rail artery serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.
To manage and deliver consistent and effective communications strategies for key projects that form part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. To manage stakeholder engagement effectively to protect and enhance our corporate reputation and co-ordinate a broad range of stakeholder communication activities (across media, public affairs, community relations and internal audiences) in line with Government & corporate affairs objectives.
About the role (External)
Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:
1. Develop and implement communications strategies on projects which present reputational risks or opportunities for the business.
2. Produce and manage detailed communications plans, detailing activities and resources necessary for implementation and providing recommendations for continuous improvement / best practice.
3. Interface with key external audiences (across community relations, media and public affairs) so that these relationships are appropriately managed, in consultation with relevant external communications teams in Government and Corporate Affairs.
4. Where required, provide direct management and development of a team including carrying out regular 121's, appraisals, objective setting and performance monitoring.
5. Build relationships and provide direction / influence to senior project managers and external industry parties / funding organisations where appropriate.
6. Provide guidance on all external communications activity undertaken by project personnel including Project/ Programme Director / Project Managers/ Scheme Sponsors, delivering consistency with the approved communications strategy and in accordance with Network Rail's corporate policies.
7. Assist with delivery of Network Rail's corporate internal communications programme and act as a conduit for material/information for corporate comms channels.
8. Check that all branding used on the project complies with Network Rail's corporate policy on branding, visual identity and image.
9. Produce regular reports on all communications activities on the project, including budget.
We need you to have:
1. Significant experience within corporate communications
2. Proven track record in public relations activity in a high-profile organisation
3. Excellent writing skills and ability to think strategically
4. Strong influencing skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
5. Thorough knowledge of the media and how it operates
Drugs & Alcohol test: All prospective candidates offered a conditional role will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.

Salary: starting at £35,582 and increasing to £40,830 per annum.
