Main duties of the job
To work as a member of a flexible team, ensuring all out-patient reception areas are manned at all times. The role involves welcoming patients, carers, relatives and visitors into the hospital by acting as the first point of contact for patients attending the Trust.
The post holder will undertake timely validation of patients' key demographics and information, accurately record the outcome of the appointment and make return appointments as directed by clinicians. The post holder will also support the reception supervisor in the identification of patients who are not ordinarily resident in the UK and the payment of patient travel expenses. This role is vital to support patient safety and Trust income.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ 3 or equivalent experience
* ECDL or equivalent
Experience
* Working to deadlines
* Use of IT systems.
* Working in a Reception environment (preferably in a Health related service)
* Microsoft office
* Experience in Customer Service
* Experience of working in hospital or related service within the NHS
Knowledge
* Computerised information systems.
* Data Protection Act 1998.
* Microsoft Office systems inc Excel and Outlook
* Understanding of the NHS organisation
* An understanding of RTT
Skills and aptitudes
* Methodical worker.
* Ability to concentrate and work accurately.
* Work well as part of a team.
* Ability to work unsupervised.
* Good keyboard skills to enable accurate data capture
* Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues both inside and outside the department
* Act on your own initiative
* Good knowledge and skills in the use of NHS computer technology inc PAS system

* Willing to develop and learn new skills and knowledge appropriate to the role.
* Good organisational skills to provide a timely and accurate service for all customers.

* Flexibility to work all the shifts and change role to cover all areas dependent on the needs of the department.
