CAN Engineering, part of the RSK Group, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Chesterfield, UK, with the option to work hybrid/flexibly when appropriate.
As a supporting member of the Leadership Team for CAN (a group of business units), you will report directly to the Contracts Director, specifically liaising with staff regarding all aspects of contract, commercial, and project management in the delivery of projects. This role involves managing the contractual risks imposed by Clients on specialist construction projects, effectively assessing pre-qualification submissions and tenders for larger and higher-risk projects, and reviewing and agreeing on the contractual terms with Clients.
You will also provide commercial guidance and support to the CAN senior leadership team.
Responsibilities:
1. Support all parts of the CAN business in contractual and commercial matters to ensure that all projects attain their full commercial potential.
2. Commercial responsibility for the day-to-day performance and governance of key and high-profile projects and clients within the business.
3. Assist in developing and enhancing the commercial and project management teams and all associated commercial processes.
4. Maximise monthly valuations and variation valuations, ensuring timely submission and managing assessment and approval processes.
5. Work with CAN project teams to deliver projects regarding the contractual and commercial aspects of specialist contracting project work.
6. Review and negotiate contracts for upcoming and potential projects.
7. Supervise a small team of Quantity Surveyors.
8. Foster and maintain strong relationships with all clients.
9. Produce accurate project cost/value reports and forecasts alongside project managers.
Person Specification:
1. Typically holds appropriate post-graduate qualifications in quantity surveying, contract management, and/or contract law (or equivalent relevant experience).
2. Minimum of 5 years of QS experience, or 10 years of PM experience, preferably in the construction sector.
3. Familiar with all standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC, ICC, ACE, FIDIC) and knowledgeable in at least one.
4. A detailed understanding of standard forms of contract, methods of measurement, and common specifications used in the construction industry.
5. The ability to advise on the most contractually and economically appropriate solution on a project-by-project basis.
6. The ability to negotiate with and convince colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
7. Be a confident and reliable contributor to any team, able to develop a team and actively contribute to the development of people throughout the whole business.
8. Be decisive, a good negotiator, and always act with integrity.
