Salary: £39,800 - £47,200 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Purpose
As a senior journalist on Radio Wales News, you’ll be responsible for producing our Breakfast and Drive programmes. There’ll also be opportunities to work on Sunday Supplement and Walescast. At the heart of the department, you’ll need to be ready to take charge of putting together and outputting live programmes – with all the editorial, legal and creative considerations that involves. Getting the best out of the team is crucial, whether that’s journalists, presenters, reporters or studio staff. That’s all needed to increase the audience of our programmes, and get the biggest possible impact for our journalism. Your identification of the best of our content to promote online, on social media and on BBC Sounds will be crucial.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
You will be responsible for:
1. Planning Radio Wales Breakfast, Radio Wales Drive, Sunday Supplement and Walescast, including regular weekend working.
2. Outputting the live programmes, including regular early starts and late finishes.
3. Overseeing the work of the journalists.
4. Editorial and legal considerations, and resolving problems independently.
5. Possible line management of a small number of people.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
To be a success in this job, you’ll need to demonstrate:
1. Substantial experience of live radio production.
2. The ability to successfully run small teams, getting the best out of colleagues, including those in more senior roles such as presenters and correspondents.
3. Confident application of BBC editorial guidelines and media law.
4. An ability to develop productive relationships with contributors, the rest of the Wales newsroom, other parts of the BBC and external contacts.
5. An excellent knowledge of Wales, its people and its politics.
