This is an exciting opportunity to join a large and innovative team within County Durham and Darlington, with 4500 deliveries across sites per year. We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic colleagues to join the current team of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, sharing in the acute obstetrics and gynaecology cover, as well as a share of elective activity. We are developing a multi-disciplinary team working in our specialties and it is important that potential applicants have the desire to work as a unified, happy team.
We welcome applications from a candidate with an interest and ATSM in Maternal Medicine; other interests in addition to complement the needs of the service are also welcome.
Applicants should have CCT (or equivalent).
Our Trust has two acute Obstetric & Gynaecology departments which are both established training centres for undergraduate and postgraduate training with excellent training facilities, centred on Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. These departments contribute to one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600,000 people.
Main duties of the job
The post involves labour ward cover and Maternal Medicine clinics, with gynaecology clinics and emergency gynaecology cover depending on skills.
The post holder will participate in the Tier 3 non-resident cover at Darlington Memorial Hospital. This is currently a 1:11 rota.
SPECIALITY SERVICE
Within the County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust there are Clinical Care Groups and Obstetrics and Gynaecology sits within the Family Health Care Group.
The Department provides an acute service across both Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) and University Hospital North Durham (UHND), as well as outpatient services at Bishop Auckland Hospital (BAH), Shotley Bridge (SBH) and Chester le Street (CLS); day case procedures are also performed at BAH.

Job responsibilities
The post is Trust wide, but it is expected that the majority of activity will be based at the DMH site.
* Provides specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology services to patients across the Trust.
* Provide emergency Gynaecology cover if skills allow.
* Provide elective Antenatal services, Maternal Medicine.
* Diagnostic/Emergency Gynaecology, Surgery depending on post holder experience and skills.
* Attend the Evidence Based Guidelines meetings, review and updating Obstetrics & Gynaecology guidelines.
* Attends weekly risk meetings.
* Work well in a multi-disciplinary team and enthusiasm to lead and develop services.
* Undertakes clinical shifts in the Department at the direction of the Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology including participation on the on-call/out of hours/weekend rosters.
* Conducts regular clinical reviews of patients at appropriate intervals with doctors in training ensuring that the patient records (including discharge summaries) are accurately updated after review of each patient.
* Conducts clinical review and clinical management of patients referred to Outpatient services.
* Supports and liaises with patients, families, colleagues, midwifery, support staff and external agencies to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care.
* Takes a leadership and mentoring role for doctors in training and others within the Department.
* Responsible for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
Education/Training
Responsible for Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues. Active participation in the provision of the departmental teaching program.
Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.

* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC).
* On the Specialist Register for the above or within 6 months of being admitted to the register by the AAC.
* Should have attained or be within 6 months of attaining CCT in Specialty at time of interview.
