The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is the global trade association for the maritime transport sector, which moves about 90% of world trade. ICS works closely with its membership of national shipowners' associations (in Asia, Europe and the Americas) whose member shipping companies operate over 80% of the world's merchant tonnage. Established in 1921, ICS is concerned with all technical, legal, employment affairs and policy issues that may affect international shipping.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the Head of the ICS Labour Affairs Department, the successful candidate will provide support to administer the ICS Labour Affairs Committee (LAC), relevant Sub-Committees, as well as the ICS Diversity and Inclusion (DE&I) Panel. They will also represent ICS at external meetings, including at the ILO, the IMO and other fora, as may be necessary. As a Policy Officer, they will be required to take responsibility within ICS for issues or topics as assigned, with an emphasis on seafarers issues, including employment policy and industrial relations matters, on behalf of shipowner employers globally. The focus of the post is to assist the Labour Affairs Department as needed. This may include conducting research, preparation of documents, presentations, facilitation of meetings, contributing to the development of relevant ICS publications, as well as general assistance and support on other issues and projects in which ICS may be engaged (e.g., Maritime Just Transition Task Force). When needed, the successful candidate will also collaborate with other ICS staff.
