Thanet District Council’s Tenant and Leaseholder Services is recruiting. We are looking for a motivated professional to join our amazing team. We are looking for a Rent Officer to support our tenants in paying their rent. As a team, we are developing and improving our service, making this a great opportunity to feed into and drive forward your improvements and be part of something bigger. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, organised and understands the diverse needs of tenants who may be struggling financially. You do not necessarily need to have experience in housing, but if you can demonstrate drive and enthusiasm to deliver great customer service, are passionate about service improvement and have an eye for detail, then we want to hear from you. Main Duties: Contact and negotiate with tenants who are in debt to their rent account. Identify other issues that may be affecting the tenants' ability to pay the rent and other bills and address these by working in a coordinated and joined-up way with other officers, council services, and external services, signposting, and making referrals where appropriate. Tasks will include: Assessing rent accounts and payment patterns of tenants to identify where contact is needed. The service of notices, applications to court and booking evictions where necessary. Investigate the reason for non-payment with the tenants and refer to our financial wellbeing team for extra support where needed. Use knowledge of Universal Credit and the overall welfare benefits system to make sure tenants have the right income they need to be able to pay the rent and all other bills. To make affordable agreements to clear rent debt. Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of their pre-employment checks.
