Job Title: Multi Skilled Estate Joiner
Reporting to: Works Chargehand / Head of Property Services
Background to the Position
Atholl Estates covers an area of approximately 120,000 acres in Highland Perthshire, managed centrally from the Estate Office in Blair Atholl, a picturesque village close to the resort town of Pitlochry and less than 2 hours’ drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The estates are probably best known for Blair Castle, an iconic Scottish castle whose history dates back to the 13th century. The castle is open to visitors throughout the year, and we also have a significant number of group visits. We host corporate and public events, functions and weddings throughout the year. In conjunction with the Castle we have in excess of 200 tenanted properties, commercial buildings, a number of farmsteads. Atholl Estates is run on a commercial basis, but with a strong element of corporate, social and environmental responsibility. The core businesses are tourism, farming, forestry, house lettings, hydro energy, conservation, field sports and property development.
The role of multi skilled joiner offers an interesting and rewarding opportunity to work within a forward-looking organisation in a beautiful part of Scotland, within the Cairngorms National Park but conveniently connected to national transport systems by rail and road, only being a 90 minute drive from Edinburgh and Inverness.
Role Objective
Working closely as part of the Property Services Team and working in collaboration with approved contractors, this joinery role will help to deliver the best maintenance service to our stakeholders and tenants alike. The successful candidate will have to work both diligently and effectively within this small team to deliver a wide variety of joinery tasks and support the estate with other multi skilled activities as required. All work is completed to a high standard and in a safe manner. A hands-on approach is essential for this role, and you will be expected to be flexible in their approach to tasks, either working alone or as part of a team. You will need to be a natural team player with a willingness to succeed and help to make the estate a success. A close and effective working relationship with the Property Team and the wider estate as a collective is vital for both succeeding in this role and ensuring the Estates is maintained in a correct manner and the property portfolio is improved.
Job Description
We are looking for the best individuals to join our planned and reactive repairs and maintenance team, working in some of the most beautiful locations, for a fantastic employer.
For this specific role we are looking for the following criteria in an individual who can carry out a range of joinery-based maintenance repairs including but not exclusively:
* Repairing wooden fixtures and structures
* Window manufacture, installation and repairs
* Easing and adjusting of doors and windows
* Roofing joinery
* Signage
* Fencing
* Glazing
In addition to the joinery skills, it would be useful to have experience and a willingness to undertake:
* Minor painting work
* Basic plumbing
* Basic tiling
* Stripping out vacant properties
* Assist with manual handling activities
* Cleaning gutters, drainage and downpipes
* Roof insulation work
* Operate a range of plant and equipment
* Work on refurbishment projects with other team members and approved contractors as required
* Carrying out emergency, cyclical and reactive maintenance
* Providing information on the condition’s status of properties
* Proactively and in a sustainable way accurately calculate materials required for work and collect them from suppliers as requested by the Works Chargehand
* To assist in the delivery of complete compliance in relation to regulatory requirements
* Manage health and safety effectively and maintain the highest standards of safe working practices
* Participate as an active member of the Castle fire response team, the estate flood response team and the estate wildfire team
The successful individual will carry out general responsive maintenance works in both the main Castle and the full range of buildings within the estate’s property portfolio. This position is demanding and fast-paced, which requires applicants to use their own initiative and be good at problem-solving while maintaining a professional approach. Candidate Profile
* Formal joinery apprenticeship and/or time served
* Grade C or better in all Higher Grade or O Level examinations or equivalent
* Good understanding of Health and Safety at work

* Experience in a property maintenance or construction environment

* Ability to work under pressure

Monday to Thursday 8am – 16.30pm with a 15 minute morning break plus a 30-minute lunch break
