We are currently recruiting for BiomedicalScientist Band 7 Team Manager to join our fast paced and dynamic Microbiologyteam. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effectiveMicrobiology service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon andThurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. We are willing to consider both full-time and part-time applicants for this role.
We're the first lab in the UK to be able tooffer some Specialist BMS staff the opportunity to read bacterial cultures fromhome, utilising BD Kiestra Synapsys technology.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide clinical analytical services for patients and service users
2. To manage day-to-day staffing in area of responsibility to ensure safe service delivery and maintenance of TATs
3. To be involved in, and in some cases responsible for, service developments
4. To supervise and ensure training and competency assessment of staff in area of responsibility
5. To carry out appraisal of staff
6. To participate and in some cases be responsible for recruitment of staff
7. To be responsible for QC and QA in area of responsibility, ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented and changes to practice identified where necessary
8. To participate in and undertake audit
9. To be responsible for writing and maintaining SOPs in area of responsibility
10. To report, investigate and monitor errors and incidents as per policies
11. To have oversight of reports released from area of responsibility
12. To authorise default fail queues for area of responsibility ( reports not sent to consultant authorisation)
13. To monitor KPIs for area of responsibility, ensuring TATs are maintained
14. To be responsible for risk and COSHH assessments in area of responsibility
15. To attend, and chair where required, departmental meetings
16. To deputise for Principal BMS as required

Organise and manage a team of Biomedical Scientists,Junior staff and Support staff performing Biomedical analyses and processes,managing workload processing to comply with both Quality Standards and KeyPerformance Indicators
Maintain the standards of conduct required by theHealthcare Professions Council (HCPC) as a registered Biomedical Scientist
Provide expert technical advice to clinicians as to theappropriateness of tests, timescales and scientific guidance as required. Toboth Hub and Essential service laboratory teams.
Have expert analytical and technical knowledge to performand manage specialist analytical procedures
Ensure compliance with all policies as required byregulatory directives, accreditation bodies and local management, including; -Healthcare Professions Council Accreditation (HCPC) - Pathology First policiesand SOPs - MHRA - NHSCSP - HTA - HFEA - Any other body in area ofresponsibility Produce and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Manage the introduction of new technologies/processes andto maximise the benefits accrued
To be responsible for External and Internal QualityAssurance in area of responsibility. Reporting on and completing correctiveactions required to address any areas of poor performance, including, whererequired, staff performance management.
Ensure all documentation required for Quality ManagementSystem is recorded and maintained
Communicate efficiently, courteously and with clarity atall times, whether face to face, telephone or electronic methods referringenquiries to senior staff where appropriate. Matters being communicated mayinclude highly complex information and/or results.
Plan and organise audits and audit calendar
Chair/lead and/or participate in Technical, TrainingQuality, Audit and Management meetings as required
Utilise the laboratory LIMS, Q-Pulse quality monitoringsystem and other application software according to authorised protocolsincluding assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory.Maintaining software systems and updating as required.
Attendance at LIMS user groups as required.
Plan and prioritise work allocations, training plans, forboth yourself and junior staff, responding appropriately to the needs ofroutine and urgent activities.
Provide management, training and professional leadershipto staff in your area of responsibility, this includes monitoring theirperformance against laboratory standards and their training plans.
Demonstrate on-going competency against training plansand by peer assessment and participate positively in CPD (continuousprofessional development) activities through academic or practical experience
Report and investigate all incidents and adverse eventsentering the information in the CAPA module of Q-pulse in a timely manner,conducting Root Cause analysis and remedial action as required

Qualifications
Essential
17. HCPC registered and Specialist portfolio or equivalent in Microbiology.
18. Management qualification to ILM level 3 or relevant experience.
19. MSc / FIBMS (by examination) / IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma and is currently in possession of Fellowship Class of the IBMS or equivalent experience.

20. Able to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if required.
21. Able to work with a high degree of accuracy, numeracy, interpretive skills and good problem-solving skills.
22. Able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of industry standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Statistical Packages.
23. Working knowledge of Microbiological manual and automated techniques and practices.
24. Working knowledge of Molecular biology techniques and platforms.
