Job Title: Test Technician
* Location: St. Neots
* Salary: £32,000 per annum (Permanent)
* Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm (Monday to Thursday) and 7:30am - 1:00pm (Friday)
Job Purpose
Performs setup, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies. Develops test specifications, methods, and procedures from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams. Tests and troubleshoots assemblies and/or final systems. Completes rework on assemblies and/or systems as needed. Prepares technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions. Assists in selecting and setting up specialized test equipment.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Set up and operate oscilloscopes, DVMs, spectrum analyzers for testing & fault finding electronic assemblies and computer-driven test systems.
2. Perform fault finding on electronic circuits using schematic diagrams.
3. Identify root causes of faults and assist in implementing solutions within manufacturing processes, liaising with production teams.
4. Set up test equipment and jigs for in-circuit and full functional testing of PCBAs and complete products.
5. Test PCBAs and electronic products according to test procedures, recording results.
6. Pass assemblies only if they meet specifications with all readings within limits.
7. Ensure testing is completed in accordance with production schedules to meet deadlines.
8. Inform management of potential delays or significant issues with products under test.
9. Fault find and repair faulty electronic assemblies or products using schematic diagrams and test equipment.
10. Maintain records of test times and fault data in a database.
11. Suggest improvements to testing processes to increase efficiency and reduce testing time.
12. Seek assistance when needed to resolve test-related problems.
13. Apply commercial awareness to balance repair value against time and cost.
14. Follow established procedures within the test department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Proven experience in testing and debugging complex analogue/digital PCB assemblies.
* Experience in electronics fault finding with electronic circuits.
* IPC-610 and IPC 7711/21 certification experience.
* Experience with SMT, through-hole soldering, and rework.
* Experience in electro-mechanical assembly using hand tools.
* Highly attentive, motivated, and a problem solver.
* Proficiency in MS Office.
