My client, a Tour Operator specialising in bespoke small group and individual tours throughout the UK and Ireland, is seeking a Sales Manager due to strong growth. This is a newly created role, with a fantastic opportunity to develop your career in the travel industry. As Sales Manager, you will bring your own sales skills as well as strong leadership skills to coach, motivate, recruit, and train the sales advisors to success. Salary is circa £35-38k plus bonus and benefits, and this is an office-based role in Glasgow.
Role in a nutshell:
The ideal sales manager should have an excellent understanding of the entire sales process in a high value, customer-led environment. You should be a quick learner with strong interpersonal skills - someone with a successful track record who can inspire the same performance in others and who excels in a management role. Experience of lead management, tour operating, or the wider travel industry will be an advantage.
The role demands a leader who has a sharp analytical mind and an ability to coach, advise, motivate, recruit, and train sales advisors while building and maintaining excellent relationships with colleagues across the business. You will also take pride in achieving excellent customer satisfaction and see this as a springboard for business growth, repeat sales, and recommendations.
Key Duties:
1. Motivate and coach a team of sales advisors to respond quickly, efficiently, and appropriately.
2. Manage the flow of enquiries, setting, measuring, and achieving targets for response times, follow-ups, and conversion.
3. Input to monthly and annual sales targets, analyse performance data, and prepare accurate management information reports and forecasts for the General Manager and Directors.
4. Develop skills within the sales team continuously to ensure team members are working to the best of their ability to meet both revenue and customer satisfaction objectives. Team members sit at varying lengths of service and expertise levels and some work remotely or flexibly: your focus is on developing their knowledge and confidence. You will create both individual and team monthly action and review plans to meet the business sales targets and ensure consistent performance.
5. When necessary, recruit, train, and integrate new members into the sales team.
6. Identify knowledge gaps within the sales team and develop plans for filling them, whether through in-house coaching or familiarisation visits.
7. Gain comprehensive knowledge of our product offering of tailor-made holidays and small group tours throughout the UK, Ireland, and Channel Islands.
The Package:
Starting salary is up to £38k dependent on experience and there is an additional company bonus, plus facilitate experiencing their tours and itineraries. This role is office-based full time in Glasgow.
Experience Required:
We are seeking someone with a solid Sales Manager background, within a sales-focused environment ideally for a Tour Operator. You will have good knowledge of the UK & Ireland, but you don't have to have specialised in this before. Sales Managers from luxury tour operators that sell international travel will also be considered if you're keen on a change in direction!
