Peer Support Worker for Crisis House
To support service users when in crisis, offering both emotional and practical support during their stay at the house. To engage them in meaningful activity and support with signposting to appropriate community settings.
Responsibilities
* To build a rapport with Service Users and gather information to support them fully during their stay.
* To engage Service Users in meaningful or group activities to increase stimulation and improve mental health and wellbeing.
* To support Service Users with skills they may have lost due to breakdown, promoting independence.
* Ensuring that people’s needs are met.
* Developing a good understanding of the needs of the person we are supporting to assist with onward referrals.
* Understanding that person’s viewpoint.
* Researching information and communicating effectively with the Service User you are supporting.
* Supporting the person to make self-referrals and appointments/meetings.
* To speak on Service User’s behalf if too distressed to communicate effectively.
* Maintaining confidentiality and boundaries while following Thurrock and Brentwood Mind’s policy and procedure.
To ensure that information processed for our clients is kept accurate, confidential, secure, and in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and Security and Confidentiality Policies.
Skills
* Diplomatic, empathetic, compassionate, and understanding.
* Non-judgemental.
* Pleasant approach, calm presentation.
* Some experience with using Microsoft Office programmes (not essential).
* Reliable with good timekeeping.
* Able to work within boundaries and take responsibility.
* Able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.
* Able to make positive contributions to the running of the house/shift.
* Effective communication skills, particularly regarding concerns about a Service User’s change of presentation.
* Confidence in reporting safeguarding concerns to a senior member of staff on duty.
* Positive outlook and encouragement of positive interaction.

Availability: Morning, Afternoon, Evening (Yes for all days).
Availability Details
The busiest times of the house are predominantly between 10:00-16:00. There is no minimum or maximum number of hours required; we simply ask for a commitment to a regular time slot if possible.
