Role purpose and overview
An experienced editor’s position within the Telegraph’s Lifestyle print team. While the role’s primary focus will be the Telegraph’s award-winning Travel section, you will be responsible for editing and publishing a broad range of pages across the lifestyle sections on Saturday and Sunday.
Reporting to the Deputy Print Editor, you will take digital copy and optimise it for print, as directed by senior editors, cutting for the page as necessary, overseeing visuals and writing sparkling headlines and furniture.
You will have a keen eye for detail and extensive experience of editing Lifestyle print copy at a high level, preferably for a national broadsheet.
Key responsibilities
1. Working closely with the Features and Lifestyle print editor, deputy print editor and senior commissioners, create, edit and publish outstanding weekend print sections for the Telegraph
2. Edit copy to the highest standard and shape page layouts
3. Work with picture desks to source the most spectacular and informative pictures to light up the page and illuminate the copy
4. Catch errors and revise mistakes
5. Work with the Lifestyle print team across different sections to check and revise pages as required
6. Write eye-catching and accurate headlines, standfirsts and captions to the highest standard
7. Conceive creative page layouts in close collaboration with the design team and pictures
Essential skills required for the role
8. Experience editing and publishing magazines or weekend supplements at a national level
9. A background as an editor but equally comfortable sub-editing or revising copy
10. An interest in lifestyle and magazine journalism, with a focus on travel
11. Experience with print publishing software
12. A keen understanding of the Telegraph’s audience and what type of headline and copy speak to their areas of interest
13. An exceptional eye for detail
