About The Role: A Director (Equity) in the Banking & Investments Team will focus on originating, structuring and negotiating complex, bespoke transactions, with a particular focus on private equity investments. The role involves leading deal teams in analysing investment opportunities, collaborating with co-investors, negotiating documentation, and driving the due diligence and investment approval processes. The role holder will act as an ambassador for the National Wealth Fund. Core responsibilities include: - Lead Market Engagement: Engage with investors, developers, banks, and industry to enhance the profile of the National Wealth Fund. This includes speaking at industry events and proactively generating new investment opportunities. - Originate and Screen Projects: Identify and critically appraise value drivers and risks for potential equity investments. Make recommendations to the Investment Committee based on their commercial viability, impact and policy credentials. - Develop Strategic Solutions: Whilst the role will be equity focused, sufficient knowledge and creativity will be required to utilise National Wealth Fund’s full product suite, including a range of equity and debt-related products to deliver financing solutions aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives. - Lead Deal Teams: Manage a team through the structuring, negotiation, valuation/pricing and due diligence processes. - Partner on Government Programmes: Work closely with government departments on their support programmes and business models to address market challenges in specific sectors. - Foster Internal Collaboration: Engage constructively with colleagues across the National Wealth Fund to share expertise, develop sector strategies, and assess the suitability of prospective deals. - Build External Relationships: Develop positive working relationships with external stakeholders, including government departments, similar arms-length bodies, investors, advisers, and project sponsors. - Lead and Mentor: Inspire and motivate a high-performing team, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning. Knowledge, skill and experience requirements: - Career Experience: Extensive career experience and market knowledge with in-depth understanding of equity, with exposure to early stage/growth transactions favourable though not essential. - Technical Knowledge: Highly numerate with modelling and technical skills, and transaction structuring and negotiation experience dealing at Board level with investors, contractors, and advisors on complex projects. - Process Management: Evidence of working constructively with other teams, including Risk and Portfolio Management, to successfully navigate internal approval processes and assist in efficient transition to asset management phase. - Leadership Skills: Wide-ranging leadership experience with a proven ability to manage high-performing teams, coupled with a strong enthusiasm for developing talent. - Highly motivated: Driven, self-starting and creative with the discipline, diplomacy and team orientation to work in a fast-paced deal environment. - Confidence and Credibility: Ability to act with a high level of confidence, maturity, and credibility, positively influencing outcomes in the best interests of the National Wealth Fund. - Network Building: Significant track record in building a strong network of market relationships. - Communication Skills: Skilled communicator with a passion for contributing to the positive culture of the organisation.
